Describing the Application Proposal (Planning Application)

Once all the properties have been selected, they will appear in a table with the name of the council (or Minister of Planning, if selected) and any zone or overlays which are over the property or properties.

It is important to describe everything you are applying for that needs planning approval and to tick the correct proposal(s) to assist the planning assessment of the application.

What is a zone?

The planning scheme zones land for particular uses. The zones are listed in the planning scheme and each zone has a purpose and set of requirements. This information will describe if a planning permit is required, and the matters that the council must consider before deciding to grant a permit. The zone also contains information relating to land uses, subdivision of land, construction of new buildings and other changes to the land. A zone sets out land use controls in three sections:

What is an overlay?

An overlay is an additional planning control that indicates if a planning permit is required for the construction of a building or other changes to the land. Not all land has an overlay. Some land may be affected by more than one overlay.

Further information can also be found at A Guide to the Planning System.
